Ranthambore National Park is located roughly 13.5 kilometres from the city of Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan. This spot, at the confluence of the Aravali and Vindhya hill ranges, is one of the best sites to see wild animals in their natural habitat. The park spans approximately 400 square kilometres, and when combined with the Sawai Man Singh Sanctuary region, covers nearly 500 square kilometres.

The structures in Ranthambore National Park harken back to a bygone era. Throughout the park, there are several water bodies that provide relief to wildlife during hot summer days. A massive historic fort, after which the park is named, stands on a hill overlooking the reserve. Numerous ancient ruins are scattered throughout the jungle, offering a unique blend of nature, history, and wildlife.

History of Ranthambore Tiger Reserve

The Government of India established the area as the Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary in 1955. It was designated as one of India's Project Tiger reserves in 1973. Ranthambore officially became a national park on November 1, 1980, with adjoining forests later declared as the Sawai Man Singh Sanctuary and Keladevi Sanctuary.
